Margaret Berkland is the president of Data Vision Design, Inc., which has provided applications development, business process design, and other IT services to the legal industry since 1989. Prior to becoming the president of DataVision Design, Inc., Margaret was the Info. Resources Technology Specialist for McKenna & Cuneo, where she still performs those duties on a contract basis. Margaret designed and maintains the firm’s internal homepage of Internet links, and manages the links, link annotations, and article content for McKenna & Cuneo’s Web site.

FirstGov is a portal to U.S. government websites. The site is organized by sixteen “Interesting Topics” covering the 20,000 government websites. Clicking on at topic brings the user to links in that subject area. For more specific searching, users should utilize the keyword search. There are featured subjects on the homepage with links, listed “new sites”, and links to the websites of the three branches of the U.S. government.

The American Legal Ethics Library “contains both the codes or rules setting standards for the professional conduct of lawyers and commentary on the law governing lawyers, organized on a state by state basis.” “As of May 1999 the library includes narratives from 11 jurisdictions, including most of those with the largest lawyer populations. It also includes the codes of professional responsibility for those jurisdictions, an additional 12 states for which narratives are in progress, and the European Community.” You can access the site by jurisdiction or by topic. This website is a project of Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute.

“MapStats provides statistics and links to additional data sources produced by more than 70 agencies in the United States.” Use the pull down menu to select the state or click on the state on the map. Once the selected state page is display, select the state level profile, Congressional district profile, or county profile. State and county profile information is arranged by subject. Congressional district profiles are arranged by district number.
