Margaret Berkland is the president of Data Vision Design, Inc., which has provided applications development, business process design, and other IT services to the legal industry since 1989. Prior to becoming the president of DataVision Design, Inc., Margaret was the Info. Resources Technology Specialist for McKenna & Cuneo, where she still performs those duties on a contract basis. Margaret designed and maintains the firm’s internal homepage of Internet links, and manages the links, link annotations, and article content for McKenna & Cuneo’s Web site.

This site uses “Active WebCell” technology, to allow users to personalize portals by adding their own content or by copying parts of existing pages. The personal portal can remain private, be shared with a select group or shared with the ABYAN community. There are links to general purpose portals, local portals, link directories, search engines, metasearch engines, MP3 search engines, WebCam search, news & e-mail groups, and communities. There is also a subject oriented list of directories.

Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology

This site is provided by Harcourt and Academic Press. It claims to be “the largest scientific dictionary every complied in the English language to the Web.” Over 130,000 terms are defined in 130 fields of science. You can browse by scientific field or search by word. Fields included are engineering sciences, life sciences, medicine, physical sciences, mathematics and computer science, social science, and general and miscellaneous.

Highlights of recent important cases are displayed on the homepage with links to more detailed text. The full text of cases, appellate briefs, business reviews, guidelines and policy statements international documents, press releases, speeches, statutory provisions and division guidelines, and testimony are available at this site. This website offers as searchable database of information on California ballot propositions from 1911 to the present. You can search the database by keywords, and/or Proposition no. and limit by year(s) or limit by pass/fail status. The database contains the full text of the propositions plus related legislative history and much more.


This site allows the user to locate obituaries from more than 1,000 newspapers. You can search by keyword and/or last name, first name, middle name. You can try portions of names. You can specify state or all states or multiple state entries. The obituaries cover thousands of recent newspaper obituaries from the U.S. and Canada. How far back the obituaries go depends upon the individual newspaper’s archives.
